A Touch of Moodle
We’ve had some Smart Penguins with tablets and smartphones asking us about mobile apps for their courses in Moodle. There are a variety to choose from, but for our campus, a few seem to stand out from the others… So here’s your chance to try some out and of course, be sure to let us know what you think!
Note: Mobile devices will not provide full feature functionality in Moodle and should NOT be solely relied upon when taking an online or hybrid course.
FYI, our current version of Moodle is 1.9… The apps shown in the videos below can be found here:

I reset my password. Then I went to my Mobile App on my iPad and tried logging in and it did not work. I went to the Web login from the mobile app and I then was able to login and it found my course. Then the Mobile app crashed, not your problem or fault I know. The problem is that after the crash, my password won’t work anymore. Ideas?
James
That’s interesting, James… We will definitely look into it when we get a spare moment after this quarter is launched. Is this an iPad II or a first gen? Connecting 3G or wifi?
It appears that you were able to login on Moodle again, so hopefully your access has been reestablished. If our logs are incorrect, let us know via Tech Ticket and we can reset your password for you again.
Yes I was able to get logged back in. I should have let you know. For some reason last night I was not receiving the reset email, but I got it today.
As for the App problem;
Mtouch+ just launched an update to fix the crash issue. I updated that, but it still crashed.
Once I could try and login again, it did not find my classes logging in both through the app and through the optional web login. Login still works through Clarks website though. I am using a first gen iPad conecting via 3G. Perhaps Wifi would be better, but 3G connectivity was supposed to be resolved with the crash update also, not that that really worked. I will keep fiddling, not a big deal about the app as long as I can login through Clark. Thanks for all your help.
James
I very much appreciate the information on the mobile app, James. We apparently have the same iPad and app so I will try to replicate the issue. It would be nice if we could get this stabilized for our users, so perhaps some feedback en masse to the developer will help. I’ll get to play with it some more once we get this quarter launched.
Thanks!
I’ve been testing my iPad and mTouch+ app on both 3G and Wifi and haven’t had the crash issue you’ve experienced, James. I encourage others to help us test it. If we can find others with the same issue or with other problems, it might help gain some additional clues for the developer.
Thanks again for your feedback about this app. Your participation is extremely helpful… Please keep us posted.
